Aloha Rene, We want to inform you that we're still working on the two requests you sent us two weeks ago. The compilation and analysis job turns out to be quite extensive and requires more time. DAR staff has been on it and expects to be able to release to you by the end of this week. We thank you for your understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions. Mahalo! Bin C. Aloha Rene, We've completed the work and are ready to release the materials to you. However, we need you to pay for a searching fee first due to the extensive time we've put in this task. The total charge now is $300. You need to pay half of it now before we release the record to you. After that, you'll need to pay the other half. Alternatively, you may choose to pay off the $300 in one payment now and save you the time for issuing a second payment. Also, I assume that your request is for a public interest purpose. However, I still need you to give a statement and justify that. So please write back with a note why your request is actually a public interest thing. Otherwise, it will cost you $30 more. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you. Bin C. Li Administrative Proceedings Coordinator Department of Land & Natural Resources 1151 Punchbowl Street, Room 130 Honolulu, Hawaii 96813 Tel 808-587-1496, Fax 808-587-0390 <<email address>>

Aloha Rene, Our policy as to charging the fees and costs for processing UIPA requests has always been the same. We decided to levy a charge in your case because of the frequency of your requests and the number of long hours to process your requests is becoming quite substantial. Also, the requested data tables are not typical of what DAR uses to manage this fishery. At this time, we should have most of the data that you asked for. If that's not the case, please feel free to let us know what is missing after you review the products we turn over to you. I'd also advise you that you may need to ask Stantec for the answer to item#1 of UIPA request #111. We can assist you in that regard if you intend to pursue. Bin C. Thanks Bin, Are you saying that the data you have ready is for all of my outstanding requests, outside of the communications from Stantec, and not just the 2017 data I requested? Hi Rene, Yes, that's my understanding. And yes, you can mail me the check to the following address. Make it payable to DLNR. Like I said before, you can choose to pay half of the charge or the full amount to avoid processing a second payment in the future. I'll be off next week and will release the record to you likely on Monday, 11/26. If that's a problem, let me know. Thanks. Bin C.
